Advent signals the beginning of a new year in the church calendar; it all starts with the expectation of God coming near. Advent is celebrated historically as a season of waiting; Israel waited for its saving Messiah, the world waits for that Saviour’s ultimate return, and we wait 4 weeks for the coming of Christmas.
